I painted this oil painting “At Night” in my Ukrainian studio before leaving Ukraine for Canada. It is a night scene of love and gentleness during the cold Ukrainian winter. Leafless trees are depicted on the stunning multilayer deep blue background. The scene is lightened only with two street lamps that creates the atmosphere of intimacy and mystery.

The oil painting is multilayer and pastous as most of my oil paintings are. To create this beautiful piece, I was using Renaissance painterly technique, which is an application of several layers of oil paint, along Italian technique impasto to create the stunning thick and pastous texture.
